Assessment and Graduation:
  • Final knowledge evaluation is conducted through state theoretical and practical exams by the Examination Board.

    • A Master’s Degree with the professional title "Doctor of Medicine."
    • A European Diploma Supplement in English, facilitating recognition in EU and other countries.

Deadline for submission of application documents:
  • for 2024 Fall intake (Medicine, Dental Medicine and Pharmacy in English) the deadline is in accordance with the instructions of Admission office, but no later than September 1th, 2024;​

Medical University - Varna
Prospective EU and EEA Students
Citizens of EU and EEA countries can apply to study at the Medical University of Varna under the same conditions and procedures as Bulgarian students, which includes sitting for the Biology and Chemistry entrance exams.
General Admission Requirements:
  1. Educational Qualifications:
    Applicants must have completed upper secondary education (hold a secondary school leaving certificate / A-level subjects) that qualifies them to continue their studies at higher education institutions in their home country.
    • Applicants with diplomas issued in Bulgaria should contact the Admissions Office at admissions@mu-varna.bg for additional information.
  2. Subject Requirements:
    Applicants must have studied Biology and Chemistry in secondary school and obtained grades in both subjects.
    • Applicants with failing grades in Biology or Chemistry in their secondary school diploma will not be considered for the selection process.
    • Optional courses in Biology and Chemistry will not be accepted.
    • University-level Biology and Chemistry courses will not substitute for high school courses in these subjects.
    • For inquiries about eligibility, applicants may contact the Admissions Office at admissions@mu-varna.bg.
  3. Entrance Exams:
    Applicants to the English-language programmes (Medicine, Dental Medicine, and Pharmacy) must sit for Biology and Chemistry Entry Tests in English. Those who fail any of the entrance exams will not be included in the ranking for admission.
  4. Preparatory Course (if necessary):
    Applicants who do not meet the required level of English proficiency may enroll in a Preparatory Course to improve their English language skills and acquire the necessary foundation in specialized subjects.

English language requirements

English Language Proficiency:
Applicants must meet English language proficiency requirements, which can be demonstrated in the following ways:
  • Completion of secondary education in a bilingual school where one language of instruction is English, with an English language matriculation exam (minimum level B2 or higher).
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) with instruction in English.
  • European Baccalaureate with instruction in English.
Alternatively, applicants can provide one of the following recognized English language proficiency certificates:
    • IELTS Academic (Overall Band Score 6.5 or higher)
    • ESOL International (CPE score 180–199, CAE score 190, FCE score 180–190 or higher)
    • TOEFL iBT (minimum score of 80)
    • TOEFL PBT (minimum score of 550)
    • PTE Academic (minimum overall score of 60)

Fees and funding

Application Fees
The annual tuition fees for foreign students are defined in May every year by a Decree of the Bulgarian Council of Ministers and later on officially published in the National State Gazette and on the University website.
Applicants for the state subsidized places, please refer to the Decree of the Bulgarian Council of Ministers for further details on the annual tuition fees.

The annual tuition fee covers:
  • Participation and attendance at scheduled lectures, seminars and practical lab classes;
  • Examining of acquired knowledge and skills via mid-term tests, colloquiums, final semester examinations;
  • Use of lecture halls, rooms, laboratories, clinics and equipment during the academic year.
