APPLICATION DOCUMENTS FOR EU and EEA CITIZENS
1. Completed, printed and signed Application Form 2024.
2. Copy of the Diploma of completed secondary (high) school education and an academic transcript indicating the disciplines studied (Biology and Chemistry) and the marks received.
or
Copy of GCE Advanced Level issued by one of the official examination boards in UK or in the country of origin – awarded in Biology and Chemistry – at least one of these two subjects at A-2 level and the other one – either at A-2 or at A/S level or in GCSE.
3. Diploma Equivalency Certificate issued by any of the Regional Departments of Education in Bulgaria*.
4. Original document issued by a competent authority certifying the applicant’s right to apply and continue their education in higher schools/universities in the country of origin of the secondary (high) school they have attended.
5. Copy of the valid ID/International passport certifying the citizenship or two documents certifying the citizenship – for the candidates with dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian.
6. Four recent colour photos 4/5 cm.
Documents issued abroad by high school institutions must be legalized and translated into Bulgarian language, certified in compliance with the provisions of the international treaties of the Republic of Bulgaria with the country in which they were issued. In the absence of such documents, they are legalized according to the general procedure for the legalizations, translations and certifications of documents and other official papers.
Additional entry requirements
The entrance exam consists of two tests – in Biology and in Chemistry plus English Language Diagnostic Test (only for non-native English speaker who do not have any of the required valid English proficiency certificates) and shall be carried out on-line (home-based) on the following dates:
  • 16 April 2024 – Biology and Chemistry in English + English language diagnostic test – registration by 09 April 2024
  • 21 May 2024 – Biology and Chemistry in English + English language diagnostic test – registration by 14 May 2024
  • 18 June 2024 – Biology and Chemistry in English and in Bulgarian + English language diagnostic test – registration by 11 June 2024
  • 16 July 2024 – Biology and Chemistry in English + English language diagnostic test – registration by 09 July 2024
  • 17 July 2024 – ADDITIONAL RE-SIT EXAM ONLY – Biology and Chemistry in English and in Bulgarian + English language diagnostic test – registration by 09 July 2024
  • 27 August 2024 – Biology and Chemistry in English and in Bulgarian + English language diagnostic test – registration by 20 August 2024

English language requirements

English Language Proficiency Requirements for Training Programmes in English at the Medical University of Plovdiv Determining the Language Level of Foreign Citizens
Applicants for the English training programmes should prove their B1 language level according to The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) in one of the following ways:
  • by presenting one of the following language certificates valid up to enrollment date:
    • Cambridge English Language Assessment (formerly the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations);
    • IELTS Academic;
    • TOEFL iBT (computer-based test);
    • TOEFL PBT (paper-based test);
    • PTE Academic;
    • Michigan English Test (MET);
    • International Baccalaureate Diploma (following the completion of training in English);
    • A bilingual secondary education diploma with а graduation grade from a state exam in English.
  • certificate issued by the Department of Languages and Specialised Training after the completion of a preparatory course in language and specialised training in English at Medical Universities in Bulgaria.
  • The students who are citizens of countries with English as an official language are not required to prove their language level by sitting an exam or presenting a certificate. They should present a secondary education diploma from the respective country.
  • By sitting an exam in English, organised by the Department of Languages and Specialised Training at the University. The Diagnostic Test of English is designed to determine the level of English language competence according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of foreign applicants who do not possess one of the above-mentioned English language certificates. They should achieve at least B1 level.
