Career Prospects

The programme Veterinary Medicine aims at educating highly skilled veterinary surgeons capable of working in the private and state network of veterinary services.
  1. Veterinary Doctor.
  2. Establishment of private veterinary clinics, employment at zoos, pharmaceutical companies, animal identification, animal disease control and other fields.
  3. Animal welfare inspector.
  4. Employment in the State Food and Veterinary Service system.
  5. Inspector at the state border points, etc.
  6. Food safety control of food and raw material companies.

Modules

  • Years 1 – 2: Anatomy histology and Embryology, Physiology and Functions of Animals as well as the Fundamentals of Animal Husbandry and Animal Welfare, Cell Biology, Zoology, Botany, Microbiology, Genetics, Biophysics, etc.
  • Years 3 – 4: Propaedeutics, Pharmacology, Pharmacy and Pharmacotherapy, Veterinary Pathology Toxicology Parasitology, Immunology and Epidemiology, Professional Communication, etc.
  • Years 5 – 6: Diagnostic Imaging, Large and Small Animals Veterinary Surgery and Internal Diseases, Veterinary Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Andrology, Forensic Veterinary Medicine, Food Hygiene, Practical Skills, Clinical Practice, etc.
COMPETENCES:
  • Treat animals and prevent diseases.
  • Determine the effects of drugs on animals and animal origin raw materials.
  • Perform monitoring and control of animal health, welfare, infectious diseases and zoonoses, etc.
  • Evaluate the safety and quality of food products and raw materials in the food chain.
  • Control the safe export and import of food products.

Assessment Method

Use a competency-based assessment strategy to evaluate students through mid-term tests and exams. It includes diagnostic assessments to gauge initial knowledge, formative assessments for practical skills, and summative assessments, which make up at least 50% of the final exam grade. This approach ensures alignment with learning outcomes and student competencies.

Entry requirements

Qualification requirements
International students could be admitted into the English programme of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences if they provide the legalized high school or college certificate and transcript (officially translated into English) and pass the entrance test. Good knowledge in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and English is required.
Additional entry requirements
  • Matriculation / School Leaving Certificate approved by the governmental authorities in English or an authorized translation into English
  • Transcripts of high school/ senior secondary school verifying successful completion of Biology and Chemistry. For Health Psychology study programme – Mathematics and Biology
  • Motivation letter
  • Passport or ID
  • One passport-type photograph (3×4 cm)

English language requirements

  • Certificate proving the knowledge of English language: TOEFL – minimum 65 points (iBT); IELTS – above 5.5 points; PTE Academic – minimum score of between 55 – 67, Duolingo  – minimum score 95,  or other academic certificate confirming the knowledge of English language at minimum B1 level (CEFR) or similar
